Sizing Your Frame

The golden ratio is a mathematically based number used by artists and architects. It is applied to the longest side as compared to the shorter side in a way that makes proportions of rectangles in buildings look good to the human eye. The number is an infinite one like Phi (3.141) and approximates to 1.61803 but carries on, literally for ever.
In my example I want to have a padding around the width of 1 inch each side, which will bring the width up from 8 to 10 inches. This makes the calculation of the height easy; I just need to multiply the width by the golden ratio 10 x 1.618 = 16.18 or rounded down to 16 inches.
